Why I bought this set

I wasn’t involved in the Lego community when Brickhammer submitted this design to Lego Ideas, so I only fell in love with it when I saw the official images. I was impressed by the compactness of the set and the touches of winter added in.

I have an area on the under tables where the water transitions to the ice, and this build fits perfectly into that remit without modification!

Further, I was impressed by the price point of the set. It sounds rather ridiculous, but $130 for a 2103-piece set is cheap, and it is fantastic value. Of course, many elements are small, so that does help keep the price per piece (PPP) down.

Ratings

Build: 5/5
The Viking Village is my kind of build – with fun part usage and clever details throughout. Only a couple of technic elements are included that are easy to follow. Splitting the model into three distinct parts helps the set feel more manageable and is an excellent way to split up the building process over several sessions.

Display: 5/5
Few models have a stellar 360-degree appearance, but this one does. Each building has fully detailed exteriors, and the landscaping continues around the back. Placing the minifigures can tell many stories, which adds tremendous value to sets like these.

Price: 5/5
When the price point for this set was revealed, I did a double take. Yes, it’s not a licensed set, so it will provide more value than a Marvel or Star Wars model, but even with that caveat, it is an incredible value. The PPP is a mere 6.2 cents, well below the benchmark of 10 cents PPP that sets are judged against. Yes, there are many small elements, but all the pieces are printed, and there are four minifigures, each with unique leg printing. There’s no need to wait for a sale on this one.

Final thoughts

This incredible model is excellent for building together as each of the three sections is independent and comes together at the end. The four exclusive minifigures are outstanding, with impeccable print detail and accessories. I recommend picking up this set as it’s a fun system build packed with details. It’ll look good on the shelf or as part of a Viking scene.
