The Fun and Funky VIP Add on Pack #40512 was available Nov-Dec 2022 and rereleased in July 2023. I had a few of these and during a recent Lego room clean-up, finally opened them to see what was inside. The 148-piece parts pack was exclusive to VIP members (it’s free to join) as a gift with purchase (GWP) when spending $50 at the Lego store or on Lego.com.

From the official images, it does look like the bag contains random elements that might be challenging to incorporate into the city. Hopefully, there are some gems inside!

The polybag is the standard Lego packaging, with a transparent front and white writing to show the pack’s details.

The back of the packaging is dark, almost black, blue, with more legal text and the barcode.

After emptying the bag, the larger pieces are loose, and all the small decorative elements are in a separate bag. While this is wonderful in terms of parts not flying everywhere, it does mean more plastic, and I can’t wait for Lego to move toward paper packaging as soon as possible.

I’ve split the parts into those in the primary packing and those in the secondary.

Of the larger pieces, I am most excited about the animals included. The pigs, frogs, and fish will be welcome pieces to bring my city to life. I do adore the purple top hat, though I have so many from my five packs it is a bit overkill. Bananas are always useful, and those red fence elements go well with the Downtown Noodle Shop #31131 to create a courtyard. Overall, some excellent parts will make it into the city and not sit sadly in the parts inventory in perpetuity.

The small bag has some exciting elements too. I adore anything related to flowers, so the leaves and flower studs drew my attention. The diver’s masks will help the water area – although I wish some flippers had been included too! The flame elements are a sweet piece. The rest I have enough of for now, but you never know when some of these parts will save me during a build!

Lego values this pack at $9.99, but I always want to know what these elements would cost if I bought them from their online pick-a-prick service. I’ve broken it down in the table below. Typically, it is around $30 – let’s see if it’s the same this time.

There were a few extras in my pack, 4 in all. The pieces come to just over $27 (I removed the bestseller fee of $3.50), so the $10 price of this pack is a fantastic value from Lego.

I favor the Spring VIP pack more than this one, as some parts are a bit random and will be harder to use. However, there is enough included that I will incorporate into my Lego world that I am satisfied. My favorite element is the pig, closely followed by the frog. All sixteen of them. What are your favorite pieces? Let me know in the comments below 🙂
